Career Exploration

The Situation

Learners in rural areas of South Africa are exposed to a limited number of professions due to the lack of exposure to the vast career opportunities available to them. This leads to the majority of learners finishing high school without a clear idea of the career path that they want to take, with some not furthering their education and or dropping out of university.

Annika Children’s Initiatives is addressing this by hosting career days at Kwa-Msinga Primary, a school located in a rural area in Pietermaritzburg, whereby professionals from all walks of life are invited and/or volunteer to showcase their skills to the learners. This is done at primary school level with the hope that as the learners progress from primary to high school, they have an idea of the possibilities available to them and can choose their school subjects accordingly. Your donations will go towards costs such as transport, stationery and material that will be used during the demonstration by the professionals who are volunteering their time.
